Today in the 3-Bet we find Mike Matusow bobbing and weaving from his Full Tilt debt, Bodog pro Tatjana Pasalic looking for a hot sister and Scrabble icon Matt Graham talking poker on WTF with Marc Maron.
1) Matusow Supposedly Owes $700k, Not Interested in PayingThe poker world has been up in arms this past week after the revelation 19 poker pros owe the former Full Tilt $16.5 million in unpaid debts.
Not buying debt claim.First Barry Greenstein took some heat for owing $400k, which he addressed in a statement last week. Rumors have also circulated that Phil Ivey and Erick Lindgren each owe $4 million and David Benyamine owes $2 million.
Another debt that has been confirmed by GBT’s lawyer Behn Dayanim in an interview with pokerupdate, is Mike Matusow’s. Said Dayanim about the debt total and Matusow's response:
“Nearly $700K. Mr. Matusow has not responded to our attempts to reach him to discuss the matter.”
According to a tweet Feb. 4, the reason Matusow hasn't responded is likely because he thinks he doesn't owe anything:
For all my fans out there just to let u all know i dont owe full tilt anything why my name is mentioned i dont know
Matusow's refusal is apparently based on buy-ins he says he paid for that weren’t reimbursed.
Whatever the truth is it’s not stopping Matusow from playing more high-stakes poker, as he tweeted yesterday:
on my way to palomar card club tomorrow to play 400-800 mix all week need a good week !#rungood

2) Tatjana Pasalic Looking For Attractive SisterIt’s been almost a year since Tatjana Pasalic signed on as a Bodog pro and now the online team is looking to add another pretty face to its team roster.
It's a move right in line with Bodog CEO Patrick Selin's recent claim that sponsoring elite pros is "marketing suicide," and that pretty girls are the way to go.
Run with Tattytats.Bodog's looking for anyone, as long as they're a woman, attractive, exerienced and not an American.
Explained Pasalic on her blog yesterday:
“Bodog is looking for another girl to join our fabulous team.
“We need somebody who is fun, plays poker and lives outside of North America because I need some backup – Amanda and Evy have taken that part of the world!
“So, if you think you can handle our poker, party and travel lifestyle, send us an email and join Team Bodog! I cannot wait to get another sister.”
But there are a few conditions the potential team member must meet, says Bodog:
"Bodog is looking for an attractive female poker player who is a fresh face in the industry.
"Bodog is not looking to teach a playboy model how to play poker so poker experience is necessary.
"One last thing, sorry this invitation is not open to Americans."
If you think you measure up, send an email to Pro@bodogbrand.com for details.
3) Word Wars Subject Matt Graham Talks Poker on WTFFans of the awesome Scrabble documentary Word Wars will remember Matt Graham.
One of four subjects the film follows in its look into the competitive Scrabble world, Graham is back in the public eye again after an interview on the similarly awesome WTF with Marc Maron podcast this week.
A former comedian now returning to the stage, Graham talks intensely about his early days in the Boston comedy scene, his struggle with alcohol, depression and bad timing and, interestingly, his move into poker.
His poker mentions are a bit cursory and intermittent, but the interview is fascinating regardless.

It was a decidedly different outcome than two nights ago when he lost $279k, mostly to Sander “Berndsen12” Berndsen.
Last night Blom decided to turn up the volume and played a staggering 6,291 hands on PokerStars.
The young Swede mixed it up with $50/$100 to $100/$200 Pot-Limit Omaha and No-Limit Hold’em.
He also switched between 6-Max games against Jeans89, 1-ronnyr3, LuckyGump and Ville Wahlbeck and heads-up matches against Ilari Shamies and Berndsen12.
Isildur1 finally got the best of Berndsen12 last night and torched the Dutch pro for $183k on a single table.
He continued his winning ways against Sahamies as the pair played a series of $100/$200 PLO matches.
By the time Sahamies and Isildur1 finally called it quits Blom was up a total of $211k on the night. Not enough to get even from earlier this week but certainly a good start.
The win also leaves Blom down $50k of being even in online poker in 2012. Of course Blom does have that $1.3 million PCA Super High Roller win to which he can lay claim.
Meanwhile Finnish pro Ville Wahlbeck was the biggest winner last night as he absolutely killed the 6-Max $100/$200 PLO games for $244k.
Wahlbeck tends to fly under the radar and he’s done it again this year with over half a million in profit just a couple months into the year.
The other big winner last night included 0Human0 (+$121k), Jeans89 (+$86k) and mikki696 (+$59k).
On the losing side Ronnie “1-ronnyr3” Kaiser got hammered in the 6-Max games and ended up losing a total of $191k.
Sahamies was right behind Kaiser as he lost $153k in 1,703 hands, mostly against Isildur1.
Doncarignano (-$138k), Berndsen12 (-$132k) and K_0_S_T_Y_A (-$126k) rounded out the top five losers last night.

Widely regarded as the Godfather of poker in Scandinavia, and looked up to by thousands of players around the world, Hansen now lives in the US and faces large medical bills.
Betfair will be hosting a charity event on Thursday February 9, 2012 at 21:30 CET. The event will feature a $1 + $10 buy-in with the $10 tournament fee going to the recently created Thor Hansen Fund.
“We are delighted to help out Thor at this time,” said Betfair Global Poker Marketing Manager Asko Heiskanen.
“I hope other operators across the industry join us to raise as much money and awareness as possible for one of poker's most well-loved players,” he added.
Players will receive 1,500 chips for the initial $1 buy-in, and will be given the option of a 3,000 chip add-on for an additional $1.
Betfair has pledged to match whatever money is raised, up to $2,500.
Hansen is the owner or two WSOP gold bracelets and has earned almost $3 million playing live poker tournaments.

Just 27 players remain. That’s down from the 85 that started Day 2, and the 155 that originally bought into this World Poker Tour main event.
And with only 18 players getting paid, nine players will walk out of the Casino Di Venezia tomorrow with nothing to show for their efforts.
$302,065 is waiting for the winner and while Marcel Bjerkmann is closest to it right now, he’s got some stiff competition standing in his way.
Here are the top ten chip counts going into Day 3:
1. Marcel Bjerkmann – 436,300 2. Marko Neumann – 384,400 3. Jason Wheeler – 348,200 4. James Akenhead – 336,000 5. Andrey Gulyy – 326,000 6. Gianluca Trebbi – 323,500 7. Andrea Dato – 309,900 8. Gabriele Lepore – 233,200 9. Jeremie Sochet – 232,500 10. Alessandro Longobardi – 221,200
Akenhead, Scott Among SurvivorsIn 2009 James Akenhead made the final tables of the WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas, and the WSOP Europe Main Event in London, and he’s making another run in Venice.
Kara Scott will be working the shortstack as the money bubble approaches.Akenhead finished fourth in chips heading into Day 3, his 336,000 narrowly edged out by American pro Jason Wheeler who finished the day with 348,200. Sitting in second, above Wheeler but below Bjerkrmann, is German pro Marko Neumann with 384,400.
Also through to Day 3, but much farther down the list, is Team Party Poker pro Kara Scott.
Scott has a very solid record making deep runs in big events, having finished runner-up the 2009 Irish Open for $413k and cashed in the WSOP Main Event twice for a total of over $80,000.
Scott heads into tomorrow 21st in chips with 60,100.
Big Names Among BustedThe final table could easily have had a lot more star power, but a host of big names went bust during the playdown to 27.
Hopes were high for Italy’s Filippo Candio, who became the first Italian to make the WSOP Main Event final table in 2010. Candio entered Day 2 as chip leader but went broke in a massive preflop all-in holding pocket queens against Jason Wheeler’s aces.
Candio flopped a set but Wheeler managed to make a flush by the river.
Also out was American pro Melanie Weisner, and she got unlucky to go broke. Weisner got her stack in with A-K against Simon Raevnsbaek’s A-6 but couldn’t dodge the six on the flop.
Joining Weisner and Candio on the rail were name-pros Tony G, Roberto Romanello, Marvin Rettenmaier, Max Pescatori, Mike Sexton and Guillaume Darcourt.
Action resumes tomorrow as the WPT Venice Grand Prix plays into the money and down to the final table. Keep an eye on our Poker News Section for more updates.
Any suggestions for a future 3-Bet, feel free to drop a note in the comments.
Today in the 3-Bet we find Neil Channing rueing the spread of bumhunting, Jason Mercier signing off on another prop bet and gambling artist David Choe hitting the Facebook jackpot.
1) Channing Calls Out Bumhunters, Says Ruining Live GamesWhen it comes to gambling and all of its tributaries, Neil Channing has been around the block.
Got to give some to get some.A former bookmaker who made his living felting tourists at the Grosvenor Victoria casino in London long before hitting the tournament circuit, Channing knows what it takes to get a good game running.
Unfortunately, much like Phil Galfond recently lamented about the high-stakes games online, Channing says bumhunters are ruining the live games at the Vic now too.
In particular, he says it’s a specific group of young players doing it:
“I hate this to sound like a tirade against youth, it's just that this is an Internet phenomena and it is a group of young players that are causing it.
“They don't seem to get how fragile the eco-structure of live poker is and they are not thinking of the future.
“The whole thing is kind of a prisoner's dilemna. I was always prepared to suck up some of the bad stuff, to take the losses in bad games, for the long-term good of the game.
“Nobody seems to care about the long-term anymore so I too have stopped caring.”
Bottom line: You got to give action to get action, youngsters.
More from Channing in his Black Belt Poker blog.
2) Mercier vs. Reporter Head-to-Head in Seven SportsEveryone knows Jason Mercier likes to throw around a prop bet or two.
Given his status as one of the most successful tournament players of the last few years, though, it’s rare someone in the media can afford his stakes.
Pushing big chip piles a lot like shot put.Dutch poker reporter Renko Rinkema apparently can as they’ve laid a $5,000 prop bet down to play out at the 2012 World Series of Poker.
The challenge? Play seven sports head-to-head and the winner of four will take the $5k.
Rinkema gets to pick four sports and Mercier three with a mediator setting the terms for the specific challenge within each sport.
After getting a few suggestions rejected, including tug-of-war and snowboarding, Rinkema finally settled on these:
@happyfreaked: "After long deliberation I pick Cycling, Shot pot, Rowing and inline speed skating.
Mercier picked these:
@JasonMercier I choose basketball, racquetball, baseball guess I just gotta figure out which of Remko's sports I can win at"
We're guessing it won't be shot pot. Read more and find the challenge terms on the PokerStars blog here.
3) Degen Gambler David Choe Hits Huge with Facebook StockIf you’ve ever seen artist David Choe’s work and/or hitchhiking show Thumbs Up on Vice TV, you know he’s both a) a brilliant graffiti artist and b) a degenerate gambler.
More of a blackjack player than a poker player, we're sure he's likely spent a night or two at the poker tables to ease his gambling itch though.
Long story short, either way we love it when a gambler hits it big and Choe has definitely just hit it big.
Back in 2005, Choe painted the murals for the original Facebook office in return for stock instead of $60,000 in pay.
That stock was just valued at around $500 million in the recent IPO.
Lesson being: Sometimes it pays really, really well to be a gambler.
More on his Facebook winfall from the NY Times here.
Watch this episode of Thumbs Up below to see his degen side when they hit Vegas:
As part of the agreement, just announced on Sunday, William Hill has also signed on as an Official Supporter and Official Betting Partner of the FA Cup.
Locked in for a two-and-a-half year term, the deal with the FA is the first of its kind in the industry and will run through the end of the FA Cup and World Cup in 2014.
As Peter Daire, the FA's Head of Sponsorship, said:
"We are delighted to have William Hill on board.
"They have a strong track record in sports sponsorship and a considerable online and high street presence that will enable us to strengthen our communication platforms for England and The FA Cup.
“In return, William Hill will benefit from an association with two of the highest-profile football sponsorship properties in the world."
The deal will feature a "wide and unique range of image rights, advertising and promotional opportunities."

The Dutch pro once again dominated Blom in the high stakes games last night and won nearly $200k.
Blom played 2,556 hands last night and despite some notable wins in the $100/$200 PLO 6-Max games he ended up becoming the night’s biggest loser with $279k in losses.
Case in point was the $100/$200 PLO table Melusina IX where Blom lost $195k to Berndsen12 in 287 hands.
It’s widely accepted in the online community that Blom has run badly against the Dutch pro but it’s getting to the point where things should have evened out by now.
Instead Blom has lost over half a million to Berndsen12 and for some reason he keeps coming back for more.
Meanwhile Berndsen12 would have been an even bigger winner last night but he ran into the brick wall that is Ilari “Ilari_FIN” Sahamies and ended up losing a good portion of his winnings to the Finnish pro.
Berndsen finished the night with $195k in profit.
Despite his considerable success against Isildur1, Berndsen is not the biggest winner in 2012 and is still holding on to a respectable, if not spectacular, $526k in profit.
Top honors go to patpatman who is just shy of a million in profit with $973k.
Some of the other big winners from last night include 1-ronnyr3 (+$99k), SKTom84 (+$64k), L0ve2playU (+$61k) and altiFC (+$60k).
Meanwhile a couple heavy hitters found themselves on the losing side.
Fake Love888, widely regarded to be Patrik Antonius, played a scant 35 hands but lost a total of $61k.
Sam “tr1cky7” Trickett, who according to his Twitter has been going through some tough times in Macau, didn’t find any solace online as he lost $56k on PokerStars last night.
Ilari Sahamies, even though he won big against Bernsen12, finished even due to some losses in the 6-Max games.
For more information be sure to check our online poker stats section.
155 in total turned up to play the latest WPT main event at the Casino di Venezia Ca Vendramin Calergi in Venice and after eight levels of play just 88 were left.
Candio leads with 227,900, well ahead of his nearest competition Andrea Dato who bagged 121,700.
Those two are joined at the top of the leaderboard by fellow Italian, and WSOP bracelet winner, Dario Alioto who finished with 84,000, and fellow former November Niner James Akenhead who finished with 78,000.
Also in the top ten is accomplished French pro Nicolas Levi who is sitting in fifth with 96,300, and Team PartyPoker pro Tony G with 78,800.
Here are the top ten counts heading into Day 2, courtesy of WPT.com:
1. Filippo Candio – 227,900 2. Andrea Dato – 121,700 3. Andrey Gulyy – 107,600 4. Mustapah Kanit – 99,600 5. Nicolas Levi – 96,300 6. Matteo Amore – 89,900 7. Dario Alioto – 84,000 8. Simon Ravnsbaek – 82,400 9. Tony G – 78,800 10. James Akenhead – 78,000
Rettenmaier’s Quads Win Massive 3-Way All-InGerman pro Marvin Rettenmaier made it through to Day 2, thanks in part to winning a big three-way all-in that involved WPT commentator Mike Sexton.
Mike Sexton battled through some bad luck to earn a seat on Day 2.From what we know the money went in preflop with Rettenmaier holding pocket eights, Sexton with Kings, and a third player with A-Q.
By the time the river was out Sexton’s kings were unimproved, the A-Q had turned into a nut flush and Rettenmaier’s eights had flopped then rivered quads.
Sexton managed to rally back, however, and finished one spot above Rettenmaier on the chip counts with 24,200.
Down But Not OutPlenty of big names are advancing to Day 2, albeit with fewer chips than they would have liked.
Recent Team LockPRO ELITE addition Melanie Weisner is near the bottom of the list with 31,300, one spot ahead of 2010 WPT Bratislava champion Roberto Romanello.
WSOP bracelet runner-up finisher Jason Wheeler was able to finish with just over the average with 62,000 and Party Poker’s Kara Scott is also through, finishing with 35,700.
Former WPT Champ Among BustedWPT winner James Dempsey was among the 67 players sent to the exit today in Venice.
Dempsey won the WPT Five Diamond in 2011 but was sent to the rail today when he lost an all-in race with pocket eights against Benjamin Pollack’s A-K. Dempsey is one of a growing number of players with a shot at poker’s Triple Crown, since he’s also won a WSOP bracelet.
Also eliminated was EPT Prague winner Arnaud Mattern, who was on fumes when he got it in with 5♥ 6♥ against James Akenhead’s pocket sixes.
And speaking of the World Poker Tour, we just published a brand-spanking new Infographic putting the WPT side by side with it's biggest rival, the EPT to see once and for all which is the best.
The 24-year-old Kursevich dominated much of the play and, despite a challenge from Paul Guichard heads-up, ultimately pocketed the prestigious title after a 12-hour battle at the final table.
Kursevich also pocketed a healthy €875,000 for the win.
Guichard, the Frenchman who held a slight chip lead over Kursevich coming into the day, came very close to a title of his own.
Facing a 23 million-3 million chip disadvantage to start heads-up, Guichard fought back to almost even but couldn’t bring it home when his flopped set fell to Kursevich’s straight on the river on the last hand.
Still, Guichard takes home €557,000 for his runner-up finish.
Kursevich, who chopped the 2011 WCOOP Main Event and final tabled EPT Berlin last year, earns his biggest career score and his first EPT title.
Pagano Falls Early, Trong Makes RunVeteran Italian pro Luca Pagano made his record seventh EPT final table in Deauville this year but couldn’t get much going with his relatively short stack and busted early in the day in seventh spot.
Irishman Mick Graydon was the only player to beat him to the rail as the true short stack coming in busted eighth.
21-year-old Parisian computer science student Vuong Than Trong held the chip lead four-handed but was crippled by Kursevich shortly after the dinner break (his four-bet shove with AQ failing to catch Kursevich’s KK) and he departed in third.
No go for Pagano.Frenchmen Yorane Kerignard, Bruno Jais and Olivier Rogez all performed well in front of the home crowd but ultimately fell in 4th, 5th and 6th place respectively.
Jais in particular can take solace in his finish as he accidentally bought into a €500 satellite for Deauville online when he meant to play a €10 MTT.
The mistake left him with just €1 in his account, but after winning the satellite and taking home €200,000 for fifth he's now flush again.
Below find the full list of final-table players and their payouts:
1. Vadzim Kursevich, Belarus, €875,0002. Paul Guichard, France, €557,0003. Vuong Than Trong, France, €328,0004. Yorane Kerignard, France, €260,0005. Bruno Jais, France, €200,0006. Olivier Rogez, France, €155,0007. Luca Pagano, Italy €110,0008. Mick Graydon, Ireland, €67,200

Any suggestions for a future 3-Bet, feel free to drop a note in the comments.
Today in the 3-Bet we find Phil Hellmuth taking a bath on his Super Bowl bets, Chris Moorman kindly dropping some poker knowledge and a new contender bumping Antonio Esfandiari for best magician in poker.
1) Hellmuth Thumped on Super Bowl BetsTo understate the matter among the gambling crowd, Super Bowl Sunday is kind of a big deal.
Tough Sunday.Everyone has action, of course, from $100 “pick-a-square” bets to dozens of props on the winner of the coin toss to the last penalty.
Lord knows how much some of the real high-rollers put up for the Super Bowl, but one notable poker icon burned away at least $21k (including juice).
Tweeted Phil Hellmuth shortly after the Giants came back to beat the Patriots 21-17 yesterday:
Lost EVERY Super Bowl bet: 8 out of 8. set my personal record for biggest loss on one game: $21k plus juice
Among Hellmuth’s losing bets:
$2k OVER 27 1st (loser), $1k NE -1 1st half (even), $2k NE -1.51st (loser)...$2k OVER 53, $2k OVER 53.5
$3k NE scores OVER 29.5 for game, $2k Giants OVER 27 for game, $3k NE -3: $2,500 NE wins 2nd half, $2,500 OVER 26.5 2nd half NEED POINTS!
Still, despite the pummeling, Hellmuth has high hopes for the coming week:
Heading to LA Monday to play poker @CommerceCasino. Tough Sunday, but I'm determined to turn this into a winning week!
Follow Hellmuth for more gambling hijinx on Twitter here.
2) Chris Moorman Drops Some Insight with Snoopy Most unknown $10m winner in poker? He gets his due among those in the know. And he’s made a splash in a few big live events this past year to gain some more notoriety overall.
But there's no doubt Chris Moorman is still one of the most underrated poker players in the world.
A pure online destroyer with almost $8 million in earnings, plus a "token" $2.4 million won live, he’s quite frankly one of the top poker players to ever play the game.
So when he takes the time to give an in-depth interview, it’s definitely worth a look.
Speaking with poker reporter Adam “Snoopy” Goulding on Black Belt Poker, Moorman dives into a ton of subjects from staying motivated to Black Friday to the mechanics of having a 20-player stable of horses.
It’s a great read; here’s an excerpt that helps explain why he's been so dominant for so long:
“I suppose I should be bored with poker by now considering how much I play, so I’m lucky in that respect. I just love the game.
"It’s not about the money; every time I play, I want to win, even if it’s an eight-dollar rebuy or something, and it makes me feel good about myself when I do."
Full interview here.
3) Antonio Esfandiari Now Second-Best Magician in PokerWe’ve said Antonio Esfandiari has been getting a free ride as the poker world’s number #1 magician for years (when was the last time he covered anyone in club sauce?), and now finally someone has stepped up and called him on it.
Noted magician Dynamo has been on hand at the WPT Venice event doing his close-up sleight of hand, prompting WPT Host Mike Sexton to call Esfandiari a “has been” when it comes to being poker’s magic rep.
See for yourself below:
With millions of dollars on the line, thousands of poker players flocked to the tables in hopes of celebrating their own championship victory.
Most of the major tournaments including the Sunday Million, Sunday Warm-Up and iPoker $200k Guaranteed easily crushed their guarantees

MatejK992SLO Dominates Sunday MillionSlovenian MatejK992SLO took the chip lead into yesterday’s PokerStars Sunday Million final table and never let up.
The Sunday Million, as usual, didn’t disappoint with 7,401 runners and a $1.4 million prize pool.
MatejK992SLO started with 20 million chips, which was more than double his closest competition.
About the only mistake he may have made at the final table was agreeing to a six-way chop. He took the largest portion but he would have won the entire $222k first place prize if he went for it.
Instead MatejK992SLO ended up beating m0rtengud heads-up to take down a total of $177k.
The Team PokerStars Pros were nearly shut out of yesterday’s Sunday Million with only Andre Akkari, Johnny Lodden and Pat Pezzin making small cashes.
Here are the full final table payouts from yesterday’s Sunday Million:
1. MatejK992SLO - $177,691 2. m0rtengud - $166,420 3. fr0zZy - $113,001 4. *C@LLMEM8* - $119,780 5. GeigelGagel - $85,118 6. sprenger62 - $76,831 7. grackhack2 - $31,824 8. Eskapisten - $17,762 9. MeirDa - $11,471

Guillden outlasted 3,588 players before finally busting in 36th place for $1,630.
Russian MarinaBalbes came out of the last sprint in the lead and entered the final table with the chip lead.
MarinaBalbes never let up at the final table and, although there was a three-way chop, ended up winning the tournament for $97k.

The players combined to create a prizepool of $207k with $35k dedicated to first place alone.
Several notables played in the tournament including established grinders Phil “bergeroo” Huxley and Matt “mjw006” Wakeman but the majority fell short of the cash.
